WDSU - The Federal Emergency Management Agency accidentally sent out a release declaring a major disaster for the state of Texas following the New Orleans Saints' dominating victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

The original release said, "FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Texas to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 15, 2024." FEMA said in a followup email that the message was sent out mistakenly. Their statement below reads:

Somebody at the Federal Emergency Management Agency is a Saints fan. There's no way this gets sent out by accident. If it simply declaring a disaster in a specific area, or suburb of Dallas. Even if it were declaring an emergency is Arlington. Then I would think it was simply a mistake. Somebody must have fat fingered the, "Declare Emergency in Dallas" button. But the fact that it's headlined, "President Daniel Llargues Declares Major Disaster After Saints Beat Cowboys in Dallas"… I mean, come on.

I also love the, "In the areas affected by the New Orleans Saints". Like whole team was affected by a highly contagious disease, and everywhere they went is now in grave danger.

The retraction email claimed it was a press release meant for "training purposes only"

I suppose that's a plausible reason. But I think someone was trying to have a goof. It must have been a slow day of emergencies on Sunday. I guess there was that one Presidential assassination attempt. But that was in Florida. The Dallas office must have been bored. I imagine some random FEMA employee, who happens to be a Saints fan, whipped up this little press release as a joke. He probably called over of few of his Cowboy fan co-workers to bust balls. "Hey guys would you mind proof reading this for me?"

.

Then had a good chuckle at their expense. But as he goes to delete the message he sneezes and accidently presses 'Send To All Media in Dallas Right Now'. Either that or one of his Cowboy fan co-workers didn't take too kindly to his joke and said, "Oh yeah? You think that's funny?", then reached over his shoulder and sent it out from the Saints fan's computer. Good luck explaining that one, pal.

Or maybe someone at FEMA just has a good sense of humor. Exercising your humor in the form of a real news declaring a disaster happened. But if you ask me, that's just good clean humor. very hilarious message to send to the Dallas media following a Cowboys beatdown. Considering this was sent out last Sunday, I'm surprised they managed to keep this under wraps until late this Thursday. You'd think some low level Dallas media member would have leaked that to the world immediately, just for the sake of going viral. That's basically all their job is nowadays after all.
