The Jets Victory Over The Titans Was More Worrisome Than Enjoyable
I'm a Jets fan. I understand the value of a win. We don't get many of these so they should be appreciated. Especially on the road. But early on with Aaron Rodgers, we are waiting to be blown away. This 24-17 victory against the Tennessee Titans was not that game. It was a sloppy win that other than the final score, left little to be desired.
First, the Jets had Jermaine Johnson go down with what people are speculating is a torn Achilles. Losing an edge rusher when the Jets still have Haason Reddick on the sidelines is a nightmare scenario. The Jets play next on Thursday against the Patriots so no matter what, Reddick won't be available that game. If there is any positive to the Johnson injury, hopefully it speeds up the Reddick conversations. But even if we had Reddick on the roster, losing Johnson would really hurt. This sucks.
The defensive line remains a problem. The Titans ran for 130 yards in only 28 attempts (4.64 yards/attempt). I did the pass coverage was pretty good. The touchdown to Calvin Ridley was less about poor coverage and more about an unreal catch. The Pats are going to try to win by running it down your throat with Rhamondre Stevenson. Jets have to tighten up that soon.
I thought Rodgers looked a lot better than last week. It obviously helps not having to play the 49ers. Watching him work with the RB's Breece Hall and Braelon Allen was the highlight of the offense. Check out this breakdown about how Rodgers worked these touchdowns off the line:
So what happens now for the Jets? They have to play their 3rd game in just 11 days on Thursday against the Patriots. Hopefully it being the home opener will give a little bit of an energy boost as that is a lot of games in such a short time. I certainly don't think this is a good Pats team by any measure but have looked so much better than I thought they'd be to start the season. Jacoby Brissett always can stay within his own game and never do too much. You can't count on him making the same boneheaded plays Will Levis made yesterday.
RDT broke down Levis driving his head coach crazy here:
The week was successful because the Jets won. It was a road win and if we can get to 2-1 by beating the Pats, I'll feel a lot better. I just haven't seen enough to make me think I am watching a great team right now. This is the problem with giant expectations. The let down is almost impossible to miss.
