In the Most Momentous Development in the History of Communication, Bill Belichick Takes to Social Media
Cave drawings. Ancient texts. Cuneiform. Hieroglyphics. The Greek alphabet. The Gutenberg press. Moveable type. Marconi's radio. Motion pictures. Philo T. Farnsworth's television. The internet. And finally, this. The culmination of all these other advancements in human communication. And a reason for them all to have existed:
And this announcement, historic though is certainly is, happens to perfect Belichick. Charming. Natural. His authentic self. With a copy of his father's book (I got copies from two different people a couple of Christmases ago) strategically placed; a real veteran move for a first timer. And full of his signature go-to gag, butchering the names of social media sites:
What a moment to be alive. What a boon to humanity. Instant Belichick. The coaching GOAT, raw and unfiltered. Now dipping his toes into the same waters that he frowned upon for so long.
And why? Because he can. Because he's finally free to. Thanks to NFL owners too dumb to put their franchises in the most capable hands in all of football, he's no longer required to keep things buttoned up. There's no division rival to gameplan for. No roster to get sorted out. No scheme to install after the vanilla looks of preseason. The head that wore the crown no longer lies uneasy. So now we get more of his wisdom, insight, and comedy than we ever could have imagined.
So it would seem I'll have to revisit the whole concept of The Summer of Belichick:
That best life he's been living doesn't simply end on Labor Day, the way the ladies put away their white shoes. We're deep into Pumpkin Beer season and this free spirit is still trying new things, living brand new experiences he never had time for. And while he's sorely missed on the sidelines, we still all get the benefit of his free time.
Let's just call 2024 The Year of Belichick. And thanks to this, we now have a place to watch it play out. InstaFace just became the thinking man's OnlyFans.
