The Whipsnakes Are Heading To The PLL Semifinals Thanks To The Nastiest Goal You Ever Did See

It's nothing new for the Maryland Whipsnakes to be playing in the final four of the Premier Lacrosse League season. This is still the only franchise in the league that has multiple championships to their name after winning the title in the first two years of the league's existence. However, this year could potentially be seen as a little surprising.

The Whips started off the season at 2-4 with losses right before and right after the all-star break. It looked like maybe we were finally watching the demise of the Whipsnakes. Like when Trent Dilfer said the Patriots just weren't good anymore in 2014 after a week 4 loss. After going 2-4, the Waterdogs rattled off 4 straight wins to be the hottest team heading into the playoffs. And last night in their quarterfinal matchup against the Outlaws, they proved that they not only have momentum on their side but they also clearly have a horseshoe up their ass somewhere.

Late in the 3rd quarter. The Outlaws had scored the last 3 goals to take a 9-7 lead. It had been 11 minutes since the Whipsnakes were able to get one in the back of the net and it looked like maybe they were running out of juice. And then…

Well then you get a bad skip pass that gets knocked down, somehow doesn't touch any Whipsnakes player on the way through, and gets deflected in off of Outlaws' defenseman JT Giles-Harris. Now it's not like own-goals never happen. We see them plenty of times in hockey and soccer. Only thing there, however, is that those typically only count for 1 point up on the scoreboard. But since this pass was originally thrown from behind the line, that ends up being a 2-pointer for the Whipsnakes and now we are tied up at 9-9 heading into the 4th quarter.

They scored 2 more in the 4th, the Outlaws only scored once, and there you have your 11-10 final for the Whipsnakes. A 1-goal win after the whackiest, zaniest, rabble rousing 2-goal bounce ever. I'm not the greatest mathematician in the world, but sure as heck seemed like that bounce was rather pivotal to that final result.

And now the Whipsnakes are 1 win away from playing for another PLL Championship. All that's left in front of them is taking on the 1-seed Atlas on Saturday on Long Island. A team they've historically dominated, and also already beat 16-12 this year.

On the other side of the bracket, the Chaos moved on to the semifinals after beating the Cannons in an all-time slogfest during their quarterfinal matchup. An 8-4 final where the Cannons' offense looked like they never picked up lacrosse sticks in their lives before. So now the Chaos will have the Archers on Saturday in the semis. See ya then.
