Kyle Kuzma Suggests Adding A 4 Point Line In The NBA, But In Reality All We Need Is A Return Of Rock N' Jock Basketball

I can understand why there might be some out there who will clown Kyle Kuzma for suggesting the NBA should adopt a 4pt line. People hate change. Shit, just look at how a lot of older generation players and fans talk about the current 3pt shooting shift in how the game is played. People hated the new 3pt line too once upon a time and now unless you're a team that has high 3PA volume with elite production, you're not winning at a high level (unless your team has Nikola Jokic). As NBA Champion Joe Mazzulla has correctly stated many times, arguably the most important stat in basketball in 2024 is 3pt attempt rate. That's just the way things are now.

So it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that one day we may find that the NBA makes this addition. Kuzma is right, players nowadays have insane range, and I think we all can admit watching guys like Steph Curry go nuclear from 40ft is about as entertaining as it gets

In theory, it would help create more spacing which is fun for everyone involved, but sadly, not everyone is Steph Curry. While an interesting idea, it would absolutely lead to players who have no business taking 4pt shots letting it fly. Also, where does it end? Make halfcourt shots worth 5 points? Grow up Peter Pan, Count Chocula. I will say it would be kind of electric if a team was down 3 or 4 points and someone hit a prayer 4pter, but we already have that experience with the 3PM so it seems a little unnecessary.

So while I can see Kuzma's angle, I think it misses the point. We don't need a 4pt line in the NBA. But while we're currently in the process of reviving all of these things we loved from the 90s, there is a place for something like this and it's something that I think most of us will agree needs to be revived in 2024 and beyond.

Bring back MTV's Rock N' Jock Basketball.

You want 4pt lines or maybe even 50pt buckets? We already know something like that works

I fully understand that this exposes me as an "old" considering there's probably a large majority of stoolies that clicked on this blog that have no idea what Rock N' Jock Basketball even is, and all I can say is you just had to be there for it. This was the peak of athletic competition and about as must watch as it gets. If we're bringing back Backyard Sports, why can't we bring this back as well? We get remixes of shit on TV like a new Full House, a 90s version of That 70s Show, a Boy Meets World spinoff etc, yet we can't hit up Bill Bellamy and see if he's available? I guarantee he has to the time and would 1000% be interested in bringing this back.

Just look at the success the Big 3 is currently having. There's a market for past players to play competitive basketball, and you can't tell me you wouldn't watch a 2024 version of Rock N' Jock Basketball. The nostalgia alone would be worth it. I know there's the Celebrity Game at All Star Weekend, but that shit stinks now. Give us Rock N' Jock instead and you may as well start printing the money.
