Nobody Loves Getting Hammered And Dancing On Shit Quite Like Nikola Jokic
It was a big day in the NBA world yesterday with the official release of every team's schedule, which is always a fun time as a fan. You go through it and realistically predict how things would shake out and somehow come to the conclusion that an 82-0 season is on deck. You look for certain rivalry games, long road trips etc, and it's a great way to get the juices flowing for what should be another exciting NBA season.
Then of course, there's Nikola Jokic. What are the odds that this dude has any idea the schedule just came out? I'm going to go with 0.0%
While this isn't quite the same "Summer Of Jokic" we saw from him immediately following his NBA title, it's certainly pretty damn close. From dominating the Olympics and earning a Bronze Medal, to getting absolutely hammered before the medal ceremony, to an all-time homecoming celebration, now we have this which appears to be some sort of wedding/party. Nobody is loving life right now more than Nikola Jokic and every single time one of these videos comes out I can't help but laugh.
What you're watching isn't only the best basketball player on the planet, it almost might be the best "get drunk and take your shirt off while dancing" guy in the business. You know it probably killed him having to keep his shirt on and go with the unbutton move instead
We're years into this phenomenon at this point and the best part of these videos for me is simply the optics of it all. It's not like Jokic is some normal sized dude. He's a giant. While the rest of the league is in the gym getting ready for the season, Jokic is partying his ass off like it's his superpower. After all these years of seeing this, I'm starting to think he shares the same ability as James Harden in that partying/going to the club actually makes him more powerful. Because make no mistake about it, Jokic is absolutely going to come back this season with that goatee and put up an easy 26/11/10 on great efficiency while mostly likely cruising his way to yet another MVP. He's inevitable.
I know there's a lot of uncertainty around the Nuggets heading into this year after losing another key rotation player in KCP and now having to rely on a bunch of unproven young players on their bench. They brought in Russell Westbrook which has uh, not exactly worked out so far for any previous team who made that same move. Jamal Murray looks beyond cooked. There are definitely a lot of questions. But as a Nuggets fan, this video would have me as cool as a cucumber. Does Jokic look worried there? Nope, not even in the slightest. That's because deep down he knows as long as he shows up, the Nuggets will be just fine.
Unless Jamal Murray really can't get back to his old form and the team locks him into that 200M extension. If that happens and he can't find his 2022 form, they're in trouble.
