Dak Prescott Is The 2nd Best QB In Fantasy Football Heading Into This Season

Josh Allen has been fantasy's QB1 over the past several seasons. Not only is he a dynamic playmaker through the air, he is a helluva runner too. Last year Allen went for 4,306 passing yards along with 29 passing TDs and 14 INTs and while his passing yards were lower on the passing TD side and higher on the INT side as they'd bee in years, he was buoyed by 524 rushing yards and a whopping 15 rushing TDs. He ended up being 36 fantasy points higher than QB2 in 4-point passing TD leagues. That is a massive gap.

Jalen Hurts finished 2023 as QB2 overall. But there is a real concerns with his 2024. With the way the Eagles finished last season, the alleged rift between Hurts and Eagles HC Nick Sirriani, the addition of RB Saquon Barkley combined with the loss of C Jason Kelce likely cutting into his rushing TD total of 15, can Hurts remain QB2?

I'm not so sure of that. He's definitely still an elite QB option, but I have him as my QB3.

The reigning MVP - Lamar Jackson? He remained healthy last season and finished as fantasy's QB4. But can he really get much better than an MVP season?

How about the Super Bowl MVP - Patrick Mahomes? Coming off a down year in which he finished as fantasy's QB8. The Chiefs are built to survive lower scoring games with an incredible defense. They'll also be going for a 3-peat this year and everybody will be geared up trying to slow down Mahomes & co.

My answer is different from all of the great options above. Instead, I like the guy that finished 2023 as fantasy's QB3, Dak Prescott.

What I like is that with DC Dan Quinn leaving, they're defense should take a step back, even though new DC Mike Zimmer can really coach that side of the ball. Their run game leaves a lot to be desired with Cowboys retread, Zeke Elliott and trendy waiver add last year, Rico Dowdle. But they'll still be involved in high scoring games and Dak has got an elite WR in CeeDee Lamb, and emerging TE in Jake Ferguson, and an Offensive Line that should give him time to stand and deliver.

He is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,619 yards 36 TDs and just 9 INTs, but what is really interesting is his rushing numbers went up to young Dak numbers. He ran it 55 times last season for 242 yards and 2 rushing TDs. While those aren't Earth shattering numbers, it does give him a nice boost each game to potentially cancel out an interception. 2023 was his first season with over 50 rushes since 2019. Can he continue to bolster that even more? If he can, the jump up from overall QB3 to overall QB2 is very attainable.
