JJ McCarthy Is Out For The Season, Which Is A Reminder That There Is No NFL Franchise More Tortured Than The Minnesota Vikings
There it is. J.J. McCarthy out for the year with a torn meniscus. Brutal, brutal news for a guy who was a 1st round pick and basically had half the Internet guaranteeing he'd be a bust. But this isn't just about JJ McCarthy, it's about the Vikings being a tortured, cursed franchise. Look at that Schefty tweet about recent quarterbacks. That's enough to be on the shortlist, but it gets way worse.
I know people can point at the Browns as being more tortured. That's a franchise that just stunk for a long time and drafted like shit. You can say the Commanders or Raiders - they at least have Super Bowls. You can say the Bengals - they at least have Joe Burrow and made a Super Bowl recently. The Vikings always seem to be good enough to be a playoff team, maybe make a run and then shit hits the fan.
Remember Blair Walsh?
Or when the Giants smoked them 41-0 in the NFC title game? This is a franchise that has had Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Justin Jefferson, Adrian Peterson, big name after big name, good player after good player. They had Bounty Game and lost NFC championship game in 2009 in OT. They had both Kirk and Justin Jefferson get hurt last year. I know injuries happen, but there's something about Minnesota and their 0 Super Bowls that sticks out more than anything else.
There's something about a franchise just constantly sucking vs being tortured. That's how I can best describe the Vikings. Hey, at least it's Sam Darnold time. Nothing can go wrong there.
