Grant Ellis (Who???) Has Been Announced As The New Bachelor And I'm Worried For The Future Of The Franchise
I'm sorry. I don't want to ruin this guy's day by talking shit, but man....what are we doing here ABC?
Grant is from this current season of The Bachelorette with Jenn (which has overall been a big bust), a pretty generic nice guy looking for love that got voted off on last night's episode. All fine. The problem is, nobody is watching this season of The Bachelorette. I feel bad saying all of this because I am a Bachelor Nation loyalist, but it's true. Unfortunately for Jenn, she was a last second choice for the Bachelorette role. With the cancellation of Bachelor in Paradise this year and ABC clearly putting all of their eggs in the Golden Bachelor/ette basket, the original franchises seem like they are being put on the back burner. "I'm just here so I don't get fined" energy.
I think we all know the real problem......and it's Love Island. This season of Love Island US absolutely blew every other dating/reality show out of the water. The fanfare for it was on another level and The Bachelor in comparison, doesn't come close to stacking up. The franchise desperately needs a refresh, and I think while they try to figure out how to do it, they're focusing on the latest cash cow of Golden Bachelor. It was new, different, and brought in an unexpected demographic of loud, old people. Are we witnessing a pivotal moment in the Bachelor franchise? Could it change the course of history? Only time will tell, but I have a feeling Grant isn't going to be moving any new needles.
