The Undertaker Says He Didn't Know He Would Be Chokeslamming The Rock At WrestleMania 40 Until The Day Of
The Undertaker went on IMPAULSIVE last week (what a sentence) to discuss his career, life in retirement, Logan Paul's WWE journey, and more - and one of the big clips to come out of the interview is the above, where Taker tells Paul he didn't know he'd be chokeslamming The Rock at WrestleMania 40 until the day of the show!
Honestly, I don't know how much I believe this (because Undertaker's an infamous kayfaber and loves to exaggerate for the sake of a good tale, as he even kinda mentions in that video) but if true - it's obviously a pretty crazy story!
We know that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was originally contacted to make a guest appearance in that spot - to even the odds against The Rock - but he turned it down and they went with Taker; how last minute could that have been, though?! You're tellin me they didn't have a plan for the main event of WrestleMania 40 locked in until hours beforehand? C'mon.
When Taker says he got a call on Tuesday saying be prepared just in case, I figure he probably knew then and there what was happening, and went to the show "as a fan" to throw everyone off the scent. Hell, even I saw him hours before the match in a suite with his wife, Michelle McCool, interacting with the crowd and wearing casual gear (backwards hat/hoodie) which had my guard down completely.
That moment still hits hard and gives me chills months later, though - everyone expecting it to be Stone Cold made the "DONGGGGG" so much more unexpected and you can hear it in the crowd's reaction. It's like 80,000 people all screamed "WHAT THE FUCK?!" at the exact same time. All time WrestleMania ending.
P.S. Completely unrelated to the clip above, but I forgot about this hilarious Undertaker moment….
