How Should Success Be Measured?

Today’s episode of KFC Radio was the topic generator episode. One question that came up thanks to the generator was how should success be measured? Quite a deep question, especially for a podcast where in the same episode we spent a good 5 minutes debating whether or not landing too hard when you jump can stunt your growth. That’s called range, folks.

Feits’ answer to this was strictly how happy you are, paying no mind to money or fame. He basically described himself in his answer which made Pavs realize that Feits is in the 1% if we’re measuring success based on happiness and not paying attention to what other people say. Was Feits fishing for compliments with that answer? Hard to say, but maybe that’s part of the key to finding this success through happiness.

For me? I think success is a moving barometer that keeps on changing as life goes on (Sorry if that was way too deep). In elementary school all I needed to be happy in life was be the fastest kid on the playground and bring McDonald’s back to school for lunch after I had a doctor’s appointment*.

Then the “grown up” version of that success in high school is probably making varsity for sports, and you could possibly hold on to some semblance of a cool measure of success by winning a case race or something in college. After that all benchmarks of success get pretty lame.

What cool measures of success do we run into after that? Getting a promotion at work? Getting married? Raising respectful children who go on to do great things? Sick brags, pussy.

How many people show up to your funeral is probably the ultimate judgement of success, but we won’t be around to see it so that’s disqualified.

*McDonald’s for lunch might still hold up for a successful day.

The topic generator delivered, so make sure to listen to today’s episode of KFC Radio to hear Feits, Pavs, and Jackie’s thoughts on all of them.
