Gymnast Giorgia Villa Is Being Called An Italian Hero For Winning Its First Medal In 96 Years And Going Viral For Being Sponsored By Parmigiano Reggiano
I know we're all talking about Simone Biles burying a former teammate here in America, but there's a huge story in gymnastics. In fact it's a world wide story because I've seen it everywhere the last hour or so. Italy won their first medal in 96 years. Pretty impressive, but not as good as what Giorgia Villa has going:
That's right, she's sponsored by cheese. Everywhere I look people calling her an Italian hero. Hard to disagree, cheese is fucking delicious. But tell me that's not a perfect sponsorship. Lean into the local cuisine, every country should do it for their athletes. Gotta get pictures holding giant wheels of cheese, like that's normal. I know I'm not as vocal about it but I come from a very Italian family, this is the dream for most of them. Unlimited parmigano reggiano. Gotta put that shit on everything when you can.
This is one of the things I love about the Olympics. We're talking about sports that we mostly watch every four years. We're not locked in and next thing you know a gymnast is going viral for holding wheels of cheese. We should do this in America. There's a swimmer from Cincinnati that won a medal. Get that man pictured with Skyline. Want him doused in Cincinnati chili. Someone from Wisconsin? Beer and cheese. No brainer.
So congrats Giorgina, sponsorship worked. Enjoy the cheese and silver medal.
