The Mets Need To Trade For Blake Snell

On Friday night, Mets ace Kodai Senga made his first start of the regular season. Then this happened:

The Mets already determined that he is out for the "regular season". How he would ramp enough to be counted on for the playoffs is anyone's guess. This tweet said it best:

So, the Mets desperately need an ace. On Saturday night, this statement was made:

Not only that, but Blake Snell struck out those 15 in only 6 innings pitched. His 2024 stats are not impressive (0-3, 5.10 ERA in 10 starts) but that's a little misleading. He signed late so he never got a true spring training. In July, he has a 0.75 ERA in 24 IP. Snellzilla is back.

Snell's contract is interesting. He has a $30 million dollar player option for 2025 that he'll almost certainly decline so you are getting a rental player. So maybe it wouldn't cost as much to get him? With the Mets fire sale from last year, they certainly have the prospects to get a deal done. Meek Phill and I were talking about this exact scenario tonight and he suggested throwing lefty reliever Taylor Rogers in the deal. He's having a very good year (2.27 ERA in 39.2 IP) and is signed for 2025 for $12 million dollars.

So, the Mets did make this move late last night. They also got Ryne Stanek from Seattle a couple of days ago but these are both small (but decent) moves. If the Mets are serious about contending, they'll need more. Ideally, that would mean an ace like Snell, another starting pitcher and another reliever.

I see Brett Baty's name mentioned a bunch. So much that it's clear it's the Mets throwing it out there. I'd have zero issue with dealing Baty. He's had 602 plate appearances with the Mets and is sitting at .215/.282/.325. This is a guy people compared to George Brett in the minors. We ended up with Brett Butler from Grace Under Fire. He continues to hit well in AAA but he's also 24. Plus, Mark Vientos hit hitting the shit out of the ball. His defense also has gone from "gauge out my eyes bad" to "kinda ok".

Trade Baty. Trade a top 10 prospect like Luisangel Acuna if it means we get Snell. Making the playoffs is up for grabs in the NL this year. Let's fucking go for it.

Trade deadline is Tuesday at 6 PM. Let's get Blake Snell starting Friday for the Mets against the Angels. How fun would a playoff run be? The Mets haven't won a playoff round since 2015. It's time to make a big move.
