Phillies Snag All-Star OF Austin Hays From The O's For Seranthony Dominguez And Christan Pache
Welp. The Phillies got what they needed - OF bat that can specifically mash lefties that is also under club control thru next season. That is all good.
Hays is also batting .311 in his last 30 games and is only 28-years-old...however the Bird Bath scouting report from RDT says he's "28 with a body of a 35-year-old, constantly battling something. Decent fielder, has lost a lot of range. A VERY streaky hitter". Well at least the last sentence shows that hays should fit swimmingly in this lineup around Castellanos and co. All in all, the Phillies needed a solid right handed stick and, with the exception of Luis Robert, there wasn't a ton of solid shit on the market. It's a little surprising Dom did this kinda early, but Hays is an All-Star. If this happened midnight hour of the trade deadline then I think it would be regarded as more of a certified W. Still, Dom did good.
A solid trade thru and thru for the Phillies. Pache is what he is at this point. An above average glove who will probably never live up to the star hype he had in Atlanta, but then again isn't rough to be basically given away by the A's again. Good day and good luck to you, Mr. Pache. As for Seranthony, this one kinda stings. A flamethrower who came outta NOWHERE during the days when the Phillies actually had the worst bullpen in MLB history and became absolutely lights out during the '22 WS run.
However, since that postseason Seranthony has battled injuries, command, and what looked like confidence issues on the bump. He just couldn't be trusted out there anymore on a regular basis on a World Series contender (you'll see what I mean soon, Orioles faithful - Seranthony followed by Kimbrel is going to raise the collective blood pressure of the entire city).
Phillies are back at it tonight at home against the Guardians who someway, somehow have the 2nd best record in the game behind The Fightins. Let's do this 2nd half. Hard.
