I Had To Bail One Of The Players I Coached Out Of Prison

Everyone wants to pretend they are a football coach in CFB25. Everyone wants to pretend they are Mike Gundy getting guys out of jail after DUIs. Well, yesterday I got a message from a guy I coached in Uganda, he needed $200 in order to get out of police custody after he was falsely accused of signing off on a prescription in the hospital where he works. He is a doctor in his day job and a captain of the Ugandan national team.

From the sound of it someone wrote themselves a script for painkillers and overdosed. Stealing my player's stamp for the script.

Yeah, I know what everyone is thinking "You totally got scammed". I know these guys, there are some players I would be more skeptical of, but this guy was one of our best assets in allocating money to the team without it "disappearing".

The hardest thing is sending money to Uganda. No online transfers worked, all apps didn't work, I can understand that companies are just preventing scams of people sending money to foreign countries, but what happens when you actually need to send money for a real reason?

I ended up having to drive all the way to a Western Union bank, couldn't use a debit or credit card, had to withdraw cash to then send it. It was stressful, all the while if I didn't get it in before the night our guy was going to be transferred to the equivalent of a county jail.

The thing is the Police were extorting our guy.  They said they were going to charge him with murder for the death of a drug addict who stole his script. We take for granted just how lucky we are that our justice system at least has accountability. I know the US's justice system isn't perfect, but its a way better than a couple of police officers just being able to hold you for ransom after you were the victim of fraud which led to the perpetrator dying of an overdose. Thankfully he was released after getting the receipt for the Western Union and did not have to go to the jail and could stay at the station overnight before the bank opened.

Now that it's officially over it's hilarious in comparison to the buzz around the new video game. It was perfectly parodied by this out-of-order sketch.

The world is a wild place, and football seems to perfectly meld into the cultural zeitgeist and international American football plugs you into happenings all over.

Look I either prevented a negative life trajectory for a teammate that I bled, sweat, (Lowkey cried) and threw touchdowns with, or I got scammed out of $200 dollars. If you knew these dudes you would realize that it is an easy bet. The guy dedicated his life to helping people by being a doctor, he shouldn't be punished for that.
