James Caan Was Actually Annoyed With Will Ferrell While Filming 'Elf' and Told Him He Wasn't Funny

It seems like playing Walter Hobbs may have been the easiest role of James Caan's career, because he really was that annoyed with Buddy the Elf.

I can understand getting a little perturbed with Will Ferrell if you're dealing with him as Buddy all day every day, but how could you be in the room while he's delivering the lines in Elf and think he's not funny? I guess hearing, "Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?" is probably quite a bit less funny on the 24th time you've heard it than when you see it on screen, but you still have to recognize greatness when it's right in front of you. Watching the creation of Buddy the Elf and then telling people Will Ferrell isn't funny is batshit insane.

This information makes me enjoy this movie even more, though. I'd go watch it right now to see Caan be pissed off at his elf-raised son if I didn't have an exceedingly strict No Christmas Songs or Movies Until Black Friday rule. But I will certainly be watching it through this lens as soon as November 29 rolls around.

This is the second-greatest Christmas comedy ever made and if you have it any lower than that, you're an asshole.
