WATCH: The Trailer For 'Captain America: Brave New World' Teases A GIANT New Antagonist
FINALLY. This project has seemingly taken forever since being teased back in 2019 and towards the end of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'. Considering the very high hit rate on Captain America within the MCU, it's feels like a welcome relief ahead of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' too. Like I've mentioned in a lot of previous MCU blogs, they need a win BAD.
This trailer hit all the notes I personally want out of this movie. Slightly scaled down stakes with more of an emphasis on low-power characters and an espionage plot. Similar to Winter Soldier, which is one of the best movies in the MCU. There are some cool mini fight sequences and a glimpse at a couple mini-bad guys including, you guessed it, Giancarlo Esposito. We didn't get to see some of the returning cast from 'The Incredible Hulk', including Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler, but we did we get to see a glancing look at the new superhero, Sabra, who drummed up some controversy. We also get a look at Red Hulk at the end of the trailer.
Here is the rundown on Red Hulk. He is Thunderbolt Ross (Harrison Ford) and he has powers similar to the regular Hulk's but with a twist. He has all of his pre-transformation brains (similar to Smart Hulk in Endgame), has the power of energy absorption and, as he gets angrier, his body overheats and emits gamma radiation. He's basically a walking dirty bomb.
I pretend I have a ton of hope for this project just based on 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' and the previous work of the people involved. However, I'll approach with some cautious optimism because, again, they need a win.
On the backend, this movie was directed by Julius Onah, who previously directed 'The Cloverfield Paradox' (bad) and 'Luce' (good). It was written by Malcolm Spelman (Empire, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Dalan Musson (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Orton (Operation Finale, Moon Night).
