Is “Tipsy” The Song Of The Summer? We Sat Down With Shaboozey To Find Out

A couple weeks ago we were in Nashville covering CMA Fest. We had a slew of artists stop by the Barstool Nashville Bar (shout out WMG). One of the most exciting visits we had was from none other than Shaboozey, a dude who's been mixing things up in the music world big time, making a ton of noise this past year.

Born Collins Obinna Chibueze in Fairfax, Virginia, Shaboozey’s got a musical vibe that's hard to pin down, and that’s what makes him stand out. Growing up, he got a healthy dose of Nigerian beats from his parents and classic country tunes from legends like Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson.

Shaboozey first hit the scene with a bang in 2018 when his track "Start a Riot" made it onto the "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" soundtrack.

But it was his track "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" that really blew him up this year, climbing to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and getting play everywhere, from dive bars to big stages across the globe. It's been #1 for weeks, crossed over to pop and mainstream stations, and turned him into a household name.

Many are calling it "the song of the summer".

When he played in Nashville on Broadway for CMA Fest, right before our interview, the crowd was so packed that after his set nobody was able to get off or leave the stage for almost 45 minutes. Even with security and an escort, the swarm was so bad he basically got stuck there waiting for people to leave and thin out.

His latest album, Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going, dropped in 2024 and it’s a wild ride through different genres. Imagine cruising down an open road with tunes that make you feel like you’re in an old-school Western one minute and a modern country bar the next. The albums got collabs with big names like Noah Cyrus and Beyoncé, adding even more flavor to his eclectic mix.
