Incredibly sad news just broke as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Willie Mays, has passed away at the age of 93.

Willie Mays was the definition of a living legend. The accolades speak for themselves. 24 time All Star (yes they had a couple years with multiple ASG who cares). 12 time gold glove award winner. 2 time MVP. 1954 World Series champion. 660 career homers. From 1954-1966 he put together one of the greatest primes the game has ever seen with a slash of .315/.390/.601 518 homers and 1414 RBI. He'd still go onto make 7 more All Star Games after that stretch. Keep in mind he also missed a chunk of time in his early years because he was drafted into the army. I wish I got the chance to see him play and person. Maybe Klemmer will give us his account at some point.

If you were lucky enough to see him play in person, odds are he was your favorite player. Anytime somebody makes an over the shoulder, basket catch, regardless of the sport, it forces you to say Willie Mays' name because of his greatness. He was a defensive wizard and undoubtably the greatest CF to ever play the game.

Funny enough, it was in the military where he learned to perfect a catch like this.

The tributes from players, coaches, and fans will pour in over the next few days. The Cubs immediately held a moment of silence at Wrigley

Rest in Peace to quite possibly the great baseball player to ever step on a field.

P.S. Bill Walton, Jerry West, and now Willie in the span of a few weeks? Fuck that
