Slovakia Pulls Off The Biggest Upset (By FIFA Rankings) In Euro History, Officially Ends Any 'Golden Generation' Talk For Belgium Soccer

I know there's the whole debate about biggest upset, but this is by FIFA rankings. It counts as long as you say it that way. But this is as much about Belgium as it is Slovakia. The whole Golden Generation of Belgium soccer? It's over. It's done. It's dead.

They had two goals called back. Lukaku looked awful. Gonna chalk that up to some destiny because Wondolowski somehow missed this years ago.

You could argue that the Golden Generation era ended with no Hazard, Courtois, Kompany, Vertonghen, etc but whatever. You could even argue it ended in the 2022 World Cup. But they still have enough of the guys and the names we know. People held onto the golden generation talk with Lukaku and De Bruyne out there. It's done. We can stop. I even know that you can say Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, sure. Difference here is Argentina has Messi and Belgium doesn't. They can't even blame Gregg Berhalter for this like we can. Again, you give up an early goal to Slovakia you gotta deal with VAR at some point. That's what happened.

Yeah, it's the opening match for Belgium. But you're telling me this is the 3rd ranked team in the world? No shot. Not when Lukaku keeps missing chances. Not when they lose to Slovakia. Biggest upset in Euro history according to rankings is something. Slovakia did enough to win and that's all that matters.
