You Can Just Go Ahead And Cancel Summer If Quicksand Is About To Start Popping Up In Maine

PHIPPSBURG, Maine -- A Maine woman enjoying a walk on a popular beach learned that quicksand doesn't just happen in Hollywood movies in jungles or rainforests.

Jamie Acord was walking at the water's edge at Popham Beach State Park over the weekend when she sunk to her hips in a split second, letting out a stunned scream. She told her husband, "I can't get out!"

…It turns out that quicksand, known as supersaturated sand, is a real thing around the world, even in Maine, far from the jungle locations where Hollywood has used it to add drama by ensnaring actors.

There was a time in your life where quicksand was the biggest looming threat you had to deal with. At every waking moment of your day, you had to stay alert. Keep your head on a swivel. It was all you could think about. Because you never knew when you were finally going to come across a patch of quicksand and slowly get pulled under to your demise.

Then at some point the threat of quicksand just went away. Never to be heard from again. This thing you spent years of your life being absolutely terrified of just became a distant memory. You probably haven't thought about quicksand more than once over the last 15-20 years.

But now it's back. And it appears to be back with a vengeance after sucking down a woman in Maine who was just casually strolling down the beach. Maine, of all places. It seems like the safest place in the world. You never hear about anything bad going on in Maine. It's all lobster rolls and old money. So if quicksand starts making its comeback in Maine, it's only a matter of time before it makes its way to the rest of the beaches in America. No thanks. Can't be having that.

Looks like it's back to keeping that head on a swivel. We're not cuncelling summer just yet, but one more sign of quicksand and white boy summer might be wraps.
