The Clay Queen - 23 Year Old Iga Swiatek Wins The French Open For a Fourth Time And Third Consecutive Year

Real shocker here, but Iga Swiatek is once again the women's champion at the French Open. Just kidding, she's so dominant on this surface that this result was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Any other champion would have been stunning. It's her fourth FO title in five years as she improves to 35-2 career at the tournament. It's been 1,096 days since she's lost here.

Might still be early to throw out the Rafa comparisons, but numbers aside the level of dominance is there. She entered the tournament as a minus money favorite against the field. Normally I wouldn't suggest taking chalk, but when it's Iga on clay it's worth it. Today against Jasmine Paolini she went off at -1600. When she got broken early in the 1st set at 2-1 Iga was still -185 to take the opening frame. It's like at that moment Iga went from showing mercy in the finals to an inferior opponent to complete annihilation. She didn't lose another game in the set and dropped only one the rest of the match.

It is crazy to think that Iga did face a match point in the 2nd round against Osaka. Of course she held strong and went onto dominate from that point on. Could her draw after that been more challenging? Probably, but people are quick to forget Iga took out Sabalenka twice before this in clay court finals last month. She beats everyone, it kinda just depends if you get bageled or put up any sort of fight like Osaka did.

People might not be in love with her because she's humble, not flashy, and an introvert at heart, but if you can't appreciate how fucking dominant she is at tennis then I got nothing for you. She's 23 years old and already has 4 Roland Garros titles in the bag, and five overall with the 2022 US Open. The question will be can she challenge Rafa's 14 at the French? Health and competition will decide that obviously. Osaka gave her hell in the 2nd round so if she's here to stay then she could become a worth rival moving forward. Four already at her age is crazy impressive and she's showing zero signs of slowing down. Double digits seems like a lock, but after that who knows.

If aliens came down from Earth to challenge us for the fate of the universe I want Iga taking on their very best in Paris.

 Think we'd be okay.
