WATCH: 12-Year-Old Bruhat Soma Rips Through 29 Words in 90 Seconds To Become The 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion

I can't believe what I just watched. There are so many takeaways from this clip and the Spelling Bee overall. But let's highlight the winner of the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee first: 12-year-old Bruhat Soma from Florida. The pressure these kids must face on that stage in the national spotlight is insane. And yet, most of the time, it doesn't faze them.

I had no idea there was a spell-off to decide a champion in The Bee these days. But I like that format. Bruhat RIPPED through 29 words in 90 seconds like it was a piece of cake. No hesitation. Full confidence. Just incredible.

Another takeaway I had is that back in the day, we used to see competitors use their fingers to "draw" letters on the back of their name tag. Now, I guess these kids are fully trained to type them, as we saw Bruhat "type" away while Dr. Jacques Bailly pronounced the words.

I will say that I do miss The Bee on ESPN. I had to dig a litter deeper to find it on ION last night, but watching that spell-off was certainly worth it. Never forget this iconic moment in Spelling Bee history...

Also, a great throwback from the VERY early days of Pardon My Take...

Barstool actually put together a few Spelling Bee's of their own over the year, including the most recent one at the end of last year:

The Bee is always a great event that sneaks up on you. Congrats to Bruhat on the well-deserved dub.
