An Entire Arena Singing "O Canada" Is The Absolute Best Way To Sing The National Anthem Before Games
Don't get me wrong--there have been some incredible renditions of the Star Spangled Banner before big games. Whitney Houston will always be the GOAT. Jimi Hendrix proved that there's no country on the planet that shreds harder than America. Chris Stapleton brought Nick Sirianni to tears.
But we still have it all wrong when it comes to the anthem. The whole idea of the national anthem to unite everybody. That alone we can only accomplish so much, but together we can accomplish anything.
And together, Oilers fans were able to inspire their limp-dick hockey team to greatness and even up the series 2-2. Granted, the anthem may have fired up the Stars a little, too, after they scored in the first minute of the game. But that's because the Oilers were too busy skating around rock hard after that anthem. Tough to get proper knee bend in that situation.
But after giving them enough time to tuck them away and settle back into the game? The Oilers rattled off 5 straight goals including a shorthanded eventual game winner.
The Edmonton Oilers are just 2 wins away from playing for the Stanley Cup, and it's at least 85% thanks to that anthem. It gets the juices flowing, it gets the boys buzzing, and that's how you win hockey games in the playoffs. It takes everybody. A full team effort out of everyone from Connor McDavid all the way down to Rick From Red Deer.
