The Rock Does NOT Look Like The Rock In The First Picture From His New A24 UFC Movie

It's been just over two weeks since Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had his first mixed martial arts training session for 'The Smashing Machine' (A24's new movie about the life and career of UFC legend Mark Kerr) and we've already got our first "nearly unrecognizable" look at the People's Champ!

I don't know if it's makeup, CGI, photoshop, a combination of the three, or what in that picture - but it's certainly working!

Well, I guess it's up for debate whether or not he actually looks like Mark Kerr....

….but he definitely doesn't look like Dwayne Johnson - and that's important for this movie!

"The Smashing Machine' is The Rock's first foray into the A24 world of filmmaking, and with this one being directed by Benny Safdie (Good Time, Uncut Gems) it feels like a proving ground to see if he could genuinely act. I say that with no disrespect to his other movies, most of which are great blockbusters - but there's definitely a difference between his performances in 'Jumanji' or 'Black Adam' and those typically in A24 movies.

He's got his 'Jungle Cruise' co-star back with him, as Emily Blunt will play Kerr's wife, Dawn Staples; and it looks like he's been working hard in the gym….

Hopefully he's been nice and punctual and on time during this go-around/pissing in less bottles, because if you've ever seen the HBO documentary that this will be based on, you know how incredible this movie could be; drugs, violence, marriage drama, and a brutal/raw look at the life of a professional cagefighter in the early days of the UFC. Attach the fucked up mind of Benny Safdie to that and I think A24 is cooking here.

It won't let me embed it, but if you Google 'The Smashing Machine documentary' it should be available to watch on a random Facebook page. I'd argue it's a must watch for any MMA fans who haven't seen it.
