Good Effort: Maryland Eastern Shore Finishes the 2024 Baseball Season With 0 Wins and 48 Losses (Yes, Really)

Pour one out for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team, which wrapped up its season this past weekend without winning a single game. And no, they didn't have a bunch of games canceled or anything. They lost 48 times for the most losses in a season without a win by a Division I team since 2009.

It seems rather impossible to lose 48 consecutive baseball games regardless of how bad you are, but UMES found a way to make it happen. In their 0-48 campaign, the Hawks allowed 567 runs while scoring just 202 and opponents finished the season with a 1.058 OPS against the Eastern Shore pitching staff. Hard to win a lot of ballgames with numbers like that, but you'd think they would have caught at least one W somewhere along the way. But it just wasn't meant to be.

There's always next season, I guess.
