Apparently This Burger From an NYC Gas Station Is The Best In The City

NY Post- It will really fill you up.

The tiny hamburger joint Smacking Burger has opened inside of a working gas station — which happens to be the last one in Manhattan below 14th Street.

On a recent Saturday, the owners said they served some 800 customers.

The four-pump Mobil on the narrow corner of Eighth Avenue and Horatio Street has a small wedge of a convenience mart. When you walk in, there’s a typical cashier to the left. To the right, past a shelf of chips and adjacent to coolers of drinks, Smacking Burger occupies a tight triangle.

“It’s hectic,” Hondros, 37, told The Post. “We’re trying to get everyone fed.”

He and Torres, 32, started serving smashburgers — burgers pressed into thin, crispy-edged patties — out of the station at the end of April.

“I’ve been pumping gas since age nine,” the Bayridge native added. “My father had gas stations forever.”

Holy hell. Just when you think you've seen it all, New York comes and shocks you again. Let me first say, some of the best places with the best food are "joints". What I mean by that are hole in walls, places that have been around forever, look like they haven't updated the decor in 54 years, and the food just kicks ass. Places that have seen generations of families come through there. So if you think I'm judging the fact that this place is serving banging burgers out of a gas station ... I can assure you I am not. I would 100% plan to try a burger from this place, but with that said it is rather shocking to see you could be placing an order and here "yeah fill it up on the Chevy Blazer" behind you. I think both can be true.

Now, while I 10000% would try this because you say good burger, I jump, there are a few things I am worried about. Like for one, the smell. Everyone knows gas is a super prevalent smell. You can sniff it a block away. So now you are trying to enjoy a double patty but you're smelling gasoline. Not exactly the most appetizing.

Second, the staff. Now I'm sure Smacking Burger operates on the up and up but with a gas station there are we sure the guy serving up the burgers isn't putting 20 on a pump? Now we got his hands on the gas, and he's all up in my meat (pause) ? Seems like a bit of a concern when picking what you want for lunch.

Lastly, gas stations seem like the place of fights. If you're anything like me you are always pissed when you have to get gas, the cost is through the roof, you wait in a line, it's crowded, it's expensive and it's a pain in the ass. So now you have people in there pissed off, and if someone cuts them in line they are ready to throw. Full on brawl. Imagine being there at 10 11 pm trying to grab a bite and two mongoloids start a fist fight? No thanks.

Again, I'm trying this burger but I have my concerns.
