The Biggest News To Come Out of The Draft This Past Weekend Is That Eminem Has A New Album Coming, And 50 Cent Says He's On It, and Dr. Dre Is Producing It.
What was the biggest news to come out of Detroit this past weekend during the NFL Draft? The Patriots drafting Mack Jones the sequel? The Bears guaranteeing they'll turn Caleb WIlliams into a bust by drafting him 1st? Nope. The biggest news came from none other than ̶K̶e̶n̶ ̶K̶a̶n̶i̶f̶f̶ Marshall Mathers.
Eminem is set to release his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), something that got swept under the rug during the draft this past weekend in the rappers hometown.
Promising a deep dive into the end of his notorious alter ego, Slim Shady. The announcement came with a teaser featuring 50 Cent, who humorously labeled Eminem not as a friend but "a psychopath." This introduction sets a darkly comedic tone for what’s expected to be a reflective journey through the character's controversial life.
The collaboration between Eminem and Dr. Dre continues to be a focal point in this project. Dre, who has been the executive producer for most of Eminem's body of work, is at the production helm once again. As 50 Cent teased on Instagram, fans can expect some serious quality, hinting, "This shit got some heat on it. Dre back at it!" Their history of successful collaborations adds a layer of anticipation for what they're cooking up this time.
Their professional relationship has been less prominent in recent years, with fewer joint projects since the peak of Eminem's career. However, the mutual respect and support have never waned, demonstrated by Eminem's participation in Dre's 2022 Super Bowl halftime show and Dre's recent public praises for Eminem on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine with James Corden.
On a related note, Eminem has been vocal about his desire to collaborate more extensively with 50 Cent, suggesting the potential for a full album together. In a conversation with DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45, Eminem expressed his eagerness to see 50 back in the studio for a joint project, indicating his readiness to support it fully. (Let's fucking PRAY we get numerous collaborations like the old days on this one)
The rapper surprise-released his last album, Music to Be Murdered By, in January 2020. It was an instant success, bowing with the top spot on the Billboard 200 and spawning the hit single “Godzilla” featuring Juice Wrld, which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100.
Eminem's 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady, is scheduled for release this summer. And I can't wait. Dr. Dre + Marshall Mathers + 50 Cent = fire flames.
p.s. - it's been a long time since Eminem was on tour, I see a tour announcement coming soon to coincide with this album dropping which will be awesome.
