The Heisman Fraternity Is Cooler Than The Masters Fraternity And I'm Shocked If You Think Otherwise

Given the news of the morning I thought it was time to put this discussion to rest once and for all.

First of all, congrats to Reggie Bush on the reinstatement. Common sense is often scarce in college athletics so to see the Heisman Trust reversing their stance was a surprise but one that I think a lot of folks felt like was imminent. As my pal Big T said, "Good on the Heisman Trust for doing something logical."

If Nissan does any plot besides welcoming Bush into the Heisman House as their first commercial for the 2024 college football season, it would be a massive miss.

This brings me back to the question I want to flush out - which is the cooler fraternity to be part of: Heisman or Masters?

I come at this as a former football player/backup AND golf nut so I like to think I am approaching this as an unbiased author.

I posed the question a few weeks ago and I honestly thought it would be more split:

Both awards are oozing with prestige and sit atop their respective sports. Both come with perks and honestly, I think the perks of being a Masters winner (playing in the tourney every year, Champions dinner, honorary membership to Augusta) edge out the Heisman (adoration on your respective campus for life, Winners Dinner, standing on stage for the ceremony) simply due to the esteem of AGNC. But folks, that wasn't the whole question.

I asked what is the cooler fraternity. Now, "cool" is subjective and not something we can really pin down. It's more-so one of those "you know it when you see it" type of things. You're going to tell me the collection of Masters winners is cooler than the Heisman winners? Pffft get outa town. Let's look at the last 20 winners of each shall we?

Masters

  • 2024 -- Scottie Scheffler
  • 2023 -- John Rahm
  • 2022 Scottie Scheffler
  • 2021 Hideki Matsuyama
  • 2020 Dustin Johnson
  • 2019 Tiger Woods
  • 2018 Patrick Reed
  • 2017 Sergio Garcia
  • 2016 Danny Willett
  • 2015 Jordan Spieth
  • 2014 Bubba Watson
  • 2013 Adam Scott
  • 2012 Bubba Watson
  • 2011 Charl Schwartzel
  • 2010 Phil Mickelson
  • 2009 Angel Cabrera
  • 2008 Trevor Immelman
  • 2007 Zach Johnson
  • 2006 Phil Mickelson
  • 2005 Tiger Woods
  • 2004 Phil Mickelson

Outside of Tiger, I don’t know that one of these guys has ever been described as cool. Sure, Phil probably has some cool gambling antecdotes and DJ likes to party, but other than that who do you have? You want to hang out with Patrick Reed? You want Zach Johnson telling you to go F yourself? No thanks.

As for the other side…

Heisman

2023 - Jayden Daniels
2022 - Caleb Williams
2021 - Bryce Young
2020 - DeVonta Smith
2019 - Joe Burrow
2018 - Kyler Murray
2017 - Baker Mayfield
2016 - Lamar Jackson
2015 - Derrick Henry
2014 - Marcus Mariota
2013 - Jameis Winston
2012 - Johnny Manziel
2011 - Robert Griffin III
2010 - Cam Newton
2009 - Mark Ingram Jr.
2008 - Sam Bradford
2007 - Tim Tebow
2006 - Troy Smith
2005 - Reggie Bush
2004 - Matt Leinart

You walk in a bar or club with these dudes and heads are turning. Can you imagine walking around SC with Bush and Leinart!? Ok Bradford seems like a square and Tebow would make you go to church early on Sundays after a late night but other than that, this is objectively a cooler group of dudes top to bottom. One of the guys' names is Joe Cool for Gods sake!

I'm not here to argue* but for my money, the Heisman has cooler guys. Ask yourself this - it's a Friday night and both the Masters house and the Heisman House are throwing a party…which one are you attending?

Exactly.

*I'm always here to argue lol

Anyway, here's ZBT
