Twins Star Byron Buxton Made This Young Fan's Day After Some Scumbag Stole An Autographed Buxton Ball Meant For The Young Fan

What started as an awful day for a young Twins fan turned into an incredible experience thanks to the power of Twitter, Byron Buxton, the Twins and the Orioles. This kind of story is what makes sports so cool. A family that lives in Annapolis, MD made the quick trip over to Camden Yards to have their son Camden watch his favorite team and root on his favorite player, Byron Buxton. Camden had a ball signed by Buxton before Tuesday's game in Baltimore and Buxton handed the ball back to the usher on the other side of the fence and when he went to hand it to Camden some absolute grade A scumbag snatched the ball and ran. From a kid, a ball meant for a child. Who does that? How do you live with yourself knowing you were stealing from a kid? All for what? To try and make a quick buck on the ball? For your collection? Grow up, such a loser move. 

I don't know if it was an Orioles fan or Twins fan but regardless they deserve to only eat their meals through a straw for the next year plus. What a douchebag move, scumbag move to the highest degree. They couldn't find the ball stealer and obviously it ruined Camden and his families day. A Twitter thread started going around explaining what happened and eventually word got back to Buxton who reached out and responded. 

So cool of Buxton to do this, he was making sure that they knew he would make it right. Buxton had told a reporter he remembered signing the ball but didn't know what had happened afterwards. Said he immediately thought of his 3 kids and how they would have felt if that happened to them. Camden and his family went back on Wednesday and as they got to the ballpark they were told that new Orioles owner David Rubenstein had a message for them. They gave him a call and next thing the family knows, they are in Rubenstein's personal seats in the front row. What a fantastic gesture by the Orioles to make it up to this family. 

They hooked Camden up with a nice gift bag of merch from the O's store but that wasn't all Camden would be getting out of the day. During the game the Bally Sports North sideline reporter for the Twins, Audra Martin found the family in the front row and sat down to do an interview and also delivered another bag of gifts straight from Buxton himself.

Martin gave Camden a signed Buxton ball, a pair of his batting gloves, and a signed bat from Buxton. How god damn cool is that? I immediately teared up watching it. This kid saw his favorite player sign a ball for him and then had it literally stolen out of his hands by some asshole. Fast forward 24 hours later he's sitting in the Orioles' owner's seats with a signed ball, bat, and batting gloves from said player. Baseball really is the best, this is exactly what you think about when you hear "grow the game". Buxton didn't have to do anything, but because he's a good guy with a heart of gold he went above and beyond for the family, same with Rubenstein and the O's. Martin did a great job telling the story and I'll be honest, I don't know how the father got words out. I'd be a puddle if I saw people treat my child like this. Somethings really are bigger than sports. Cool to see a happy ending out of what started as a shitty story. 

Very easy to see why Buxton is his favorite player as well. Cool to see an athlete recognize he can do a few small gestures and make a fan's dream come true and really have an impact on the youth. What an awesome day at the ballpark for Camden and his family!
