Sunday Will Officially Be "Mike Gorman Day" In The City Of Boston As We All Honor The Living Legend

Well if this isn't the easiest no brainer in the history of no brainers, I'm not sure what is. I don't know about anyone else, but seeing as how we're only 2 more days away from Mike Gorman calling his final regular season game after 43 years, I'm nowhere close to being ready. I'm very deep in the denial stage at the moment, and from the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like Gorman is ready either

Christ is it getting dusty in here. There truly is no one better than Mike Gorman and I'll argue there will never be another Mike Gorman for as long as Celtics games exist. He is the standard. For pretty much everyone reading this blog right now, I imagine he's the only voice you've ever heard. I simply cannot imagine my life without hearing Gorman's "GOT IT!!" or "Takes it.....MAKES IT!!" a couple of times a week from October until whenever the season ends. Mike (and Tommy) are the foundation of my (and many others) Celtics fandom. Every big moment, every low moment, he's been there through it all.

The news that this would be Gorman's last year was tough to stomach when we first learned about it, then as the year went on and the reality started to set in things got even worse. Now just being days away from it I still don't want to accept that it's real, and I know that may sound silly to some, but for Celts fans, it's the honest truth. Since my first day on this earth, Mike Gorman's voice has always been there. Even to this day, I cannot wait to hear his voice on the intro of the broadcast. For my entire life that's how we've known Celts basketball is back and it's going to be weird as shit once that's gone forever.

Selfishly, I'm still holding out hope for 1 more year. I know that's not fair and we should probably let the man enjoy his retirement, but I'm not ready. I want Gorman around for this current window, because he deserves it. It's partly why there's so much pressure to finally punch through and win that 18th banner, because Mike Gorman deserves to be sent off a champion.

If anyone deserves to have their own day where the entire city pays our respects and gives someone their flowers, it's Mike Gorman. Sunday is going to be emotional as hell, and frankly things won't ever feel the same as soon as the first round is over.
