Me Forgiving Rico Bosco Might've Been A Mistake
ICYMI Rico found himself in some scalding hot water this weekend. Folks are saying even Mintzy never felt those sort of temps on the river when he was at the poker table a few weeks ago.
Some of you might be wondering why I am even mentioning this right now beyond what Dave, Kevin, and Dan said on the rundown and the answer is this; I feel partly responsible for everything Rico has done at Barstool since the winter of 2022.
For any who don't know here is the TLDR - Rico created a burner account to harass my wife. Then he left the company for a job that didn't exist. Then he came crawling back to Barstool. Before he was allowed to come back, he had to apologize to me, and Dave told him it was up to me if he could return. In other words, if I wasn't comfortable with him coming back, Dave would not have re-hired him. Credit to Dave for putting that ball in my court.
Now clearly, I accepted his apology and told Dave I was okay with Rico coming back. Say what you will but I have a big heart and I believe in second chances. For the guy who loves to talk about "some things" to include family, I couldn't stomach taking his job away at Christmas time.
But now? Jesus. This guy Rico is sleeping on streams and I kinda have egg on my face. I breathed life into this guy. The guy who likes to talk about foxholes. The guy who passes off Leo McGarry's "guy in the hole" parable as his own. I got in his foxhole. I jumped in his hole. How does he repay me? BY SLEEPING ON A STREAM?! This would be like if I'm Tom Hanks on the bridge telling Private Ryan to "earn this" and Ryan going off to live a life unfaithful to his wife, boozed up every day, and dying broke.
There have been some dust ups since he returned but nothing egregious. Well, they were egregious, but nothing like doing the exact opposite of your job while on a live stream.
Where do we go from here? For starters I think Rico needs to just say hey I screwed up and take his licks like a man instead of making up an excuse, regardless of what it is honestly. From there I think you need to just put your head down and work because here's the thing - I want Rico to succeed. We text from time to time. We chat in the office. We see the world through a similar lens on a lot of topics.
But, and Rico knows this, this company was built on hard work and Panera baguettes. Not naps during streams. Accept whatever craziness punishment Dave and Dan cook up for you, don't complain, and please don't make me feel like a fool.
