"The Batman: Part 2" Is Coming Out Right Around The Corner, Just Kidding It's Been Delayed Until October 2026

Dammit, now, what do I have to look forward to? I don't know the exact reason for this delay. It felt like the news about "The Batman: Part 2" had been relatively quiet over the last few months. It's where I do give Warner Brothers some credit. They give their directors a lot of creative control. It doesn't seem like they've a rushed anything. Rushed sequels are often bad sequels, so I'm glad that they're giving Matt Reeves time to cook. I have full faith in his vision, but as a fan who loved the universe they created with the first movie, I wish I didn't have to wait so long. 

This is a long delay. This film was originally supposed to come out next year, but it has now been delayed until October 2026. The original film took place over Halloween and was originally slated for a Halloween release in 2021 before Covid fucked everything up. I don't know what the plan is for the sequel, but I do like the idea of the Matt Reeves Batman films being Halloween films. The first thing that Batman says in "The Batman" is "Thursday, October 31st" and I know that Matt Reeves has been open about drawing inspiration from "The Long Halloween," which is a very famous Batman story arc.

I also wonder how much James Gunn's new DC universe impacted this decision. I love Batman and won't complain, but it will be a bit wonky that we have two different Batman set in two very different universes. It's not really anybody's fault except for DC and Warner Brothers, who didn't have their shit together when they originally put these universes together. At the same time, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love having a universe in which we can root for a grounded, realistic version of Batman. 

I won't claim that Matt Reeves is even in the same ballpark as Christopher Nolan. He's got a long way to go, but I do think that he has an exceptional understanding of the character of Batman and a great way of making grand spectacle feel very intimate regarding how he handles his characters. The character stuff is what made the Nolan trilogy great, and that's what made "The Batman" work as well. It sucks to have it get delayed, but the creative came behind these projects has my full trust. Don't let me down.
