These Beer Ads Very Cleverly Edited Into The Chilean Cuts Of Star Wars Are Hilarious
Luke's first cold one - his father definitely wanted him to have that.
Someone on Twitter recently discovered what I believe are VHS recordings of the original Star Wars trilogy from when it aired in Chile in 2003, and it looks like they made even more edits than George Lucas' Special Edition before it went to television.
Why, you ask?
Well, apparently, advertisements - specifically advertisements for Cerveza Cristal beer - were edited into the movies as a way to avoid taking commercial breaks….and the results are hysterical.
Take Luke getting ready to confront Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back, for example. He's gotta head to Dagobah, meet Jedi Master Yoda, train in the swamps with him, and oh - he's gotta grab a cold one from that tree….
How about Emperor Palpatine's big scene at the end of 'Jedi' where Luke and Vader are brought before him in the Throne Room? It's important stuff and the fate of the galaxy is on the line, yes, but it's also 5 o'clock somewhere….
Let's go back to 'A New Hope' for a minute - wonder why Obi-Wan hit the Death Star and approached Vader so loosey goosey? He had a little liquid confidence he snuck during Luke's remote training!
Wet the beak, Ben! You deserve it!
He didn't stop there, either - he found Grand Moff Tarkin's stash on the tractor beam control panel!
I truly can't get enough of these clips; every single one gets a laugh outta me. Thankfully the internet agrees, and the memes have been NONSTOP all weekend. You name a movie - I guarantee somebody has inserted Cerveza Cristal into it….
Hopefully somebody finds the full recordings of the OG Star Wars trilogy (Chile Edition) soon - I need more! MOREEE!!!
