Sting's Final Match Was A Perfect End To A Phenomenal Career

Last night, Sting wrestled his final match ever at AEW Revolution. It was a tag team match, where he and his partner Darby Allin took on The Young Bucks - opponents hand selected by "The Icon" to be his last - and it was fucking awesome. 

I know a lot of you will probably roll your eyes at the notion of a professional wrestler "retiring for good" at this point, considering how many of them have broken those promises, but something tells me this was really it for the Stinger. 

Hell, I thought he was done for in 2015 when he retired after suffering a serious neck injury in his match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions....

If you were to tell me he'd go on to have one of the best runs of his career in AEW years after that, I'd call you crazy. The Stinger did it, though!

From the cinematic matches, to his run-in spots to help out Darby Allin, to his classic no-selling finishers, to the special Metallica entrances, to diving off any tall structure he could find like he was Shane O Mac - Sting's final stint in AEW was perfect. Everything about it was unironically awesome.

Last night, he capped that run off with one final hoorah, and everyone in the match went all out to make sure it was a memorable one for Sting….

Sting's sons joined in at the start of the match, dressed as the ghosts of Sting's past….

….and even Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat got involved and took a few bumps!

I mean - that Darby Allin bump into a pane of glass being held up by a buncha folding chairs is one of the damndest things I've ever seen in my whole life. His back was a fucking MESS moments afterwards….

They truly made us believe that Sting would be doing the veteran thing and putting The Young Bucks over a couple times in his final AEW appearance, but he was given the victory and happy ending after all - completing an undefeated run in the company.

Sting even called it a "Top 3" match of his career afterwards, which really speaks to how happy he was with his send-off….

Seeing Tony Khan and AEW treat this legend with the respect he deserves (especially after Vince botched his WWE run) has been a real pleasure and a treat for the past three years, and I couldn't be more happy that this is how fans will remember him - and not via the Rollins match. Sting is one of the biggest/best legends this business has ever seen, and the legacy that he has left on the industry is undeniable. 

It's a shame we never got the Sting vs Undertaker dream match, but oh well - some things just aren't meant to be.
