The State Of Texas Is Suing Pornhub's Parent Company So That Everyone Who Uses The Website Will Have To Enter A Government Issued ID Before Logging On

Source -  Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Pornhub’s parent company for allegedly violating state law by failing to implement age verification measures to ensure that children can’t access the adults-only site.

Aylo Global Entertainment has been accused of violating House Bill 1181, the Texas statute that was codified into law last year and which requires porn sites to install reasonable measures to prevent those under 18 years old from viewing the explicit material.

Paxton wants the state court to impose an injunction forcing Aylo to roll out an age-verification system that allows access only to those who use government-issued ID to prove that they are of age.

Bless you heart, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Seriously. Bless your heart for thinking that even for a second, anyone in their right mind, child or not, would enter their government issued ID before logging onto PORNHUB. That is a risk that not a single American is willing to take. It doesn't matter whether or not you're watching weird shit, the thought of having your name tied to a porn search is beyond mortifying. What if it got leaked? Who has access to it? Why do they need it in the first place? To make sure that minors don't have access to porn? Give me a break. If there's a will, there's a way. And don't get me wrong I understand how detrimental porn is to your sexual/emotional/developmental health, but making people log in with a government issued ID so that companies can data-mine your information under the guise of "protecting the youth" is preposterous. Also, there are a billion other ways to watch porn if you want to. You'd basically have to shut down the entire internet if you really want to "protect the youth."

Here's what the lawsuit alleges...

“The age verification methods used by the Defendants on their websites cannot be said to verify anything at all, and wholly fail to comply with the requirements of” the law, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in Travis County District Court.

“I look forward to holding any company accountable that violates our age verification laws intended to prevent minors from being exposed to harmful, obscene material on the internet.”

Now the good news is that this exact law was struck down and blocked last fall so that will likely happen again, but ya never know. It's a very strange hill to die on. Especially for a state that seems to have a thousands of other more pressing issues. Anyway, protect the youth! I'll follow up if anything comes from this story but I doubt it will.
