Samuel L. Jackson Wants To Make A Mace Windu Series, And I’m Actually Intrigued By The Idea

I have a very bizarre relationship with Star Wars. I don't love it anymore, but I desperately want to. I want to watch that one Star Wars movie or show that changes my opinion on the direction that the universe is going in. I want consistency, but I also don't want oversaturation.

I've written about all this before, so I won't rehash it. It feels inevitable that every minor character will get a show or a movie at this point. I can't wait until we get the Kit Fisto cinematic universe, but one character who went out with a whimper that a lot of people seem to have forgotten about is Samuel L Jackson's Mace Windu. Samuel L. Jackson is not that good in those movies. I don't blame him; he's a great fucking actor. I just don't think that he was properly cast in that role, yet there's always been a mystique to that character, probably in large part because Samuel L. Jackson has always just been a bad motherfucker. He died in "Revenge of the Sith," but as things go with Star Wars, unless you see a body get blown up into 1 million particles and turned into hamburger meat, dead doesn't really mean dead anymore. Somehow, even Palpatine returned. Now, Samuel L. Jackson is lobbying for a Mace Windu TV series, and I'm intrigued.

Here's why I'd be interested in watching a Mace Windu series. I believe that Mace Windu is the dumbest character in all of Star Wars. He is a bumbling fucking idiot on an obscene level. He makes Jar Jar Binks look like a member of Mensa. The guy stood there like an asshole as the entire Jedi order crumpled right under his nose. It's actually laughable in "Revenge of Sith" when he says, "I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi." No fucking shit, what gave it away? Was it all the men in dark robes conspiring behind your back? Don't you know everyone wearing dark robes and Star Wars is evil?

I will give Star Wars credit because they've used their television shows to enhance certain characters that we may not have thought of previously. I would argue that's kind of cheating. They should've given us actual character depth in the original movies, but stuff like "The Clone Wars made Darth Maul a much more interesting character. Perhaps they could do the same with Mace Windu as well. I'm not going to claim to have watched every episode, but That dude is an all-time bag fumbler, the poster child for the Jedi's stupidity.

I'm not surprised that the Star Wars prequels have their defenders, but I am surprised by how much the discourse surrounding them has changed over the last several years. Nobody would've wanted a Mace Windu or an Obi-Wan series a decade ago. The people who grew up on the prequels are now much older and have a much greater say in things. I'm not saying that this is necessarily a good thing. As I said, oversaturation is a problem with the Star Wars universe. I can complain about all I want, but it isn't going to stop. So, if they're going to continue telling stories, try to enhance previously established characters.
