While You Were Sleeping, Bill Walton Casually Dropped That He Was Almost Cast As Chewbacca In Star Wars

Oh my God. Listen, Bill Walton has and always will be a  premiere voice in college basketball. I personally think he’s gone downhill since he got in on the joke when the internet picked up more and more of his clips and made them mainstream. It was a lot more fun when it was organic and you had to know and follow the diehard hoops accounts that were also watching Pac 12 games lunatics like me were. You wouldn’t even see the clips back in the day on twitter people would just have what he said in a tweet. But nonetheless, listening to him over the years is an automatic max volume now. You literally never know what he’s going to say.

Shit just last night he dropped this gem.

Over the years you can search Reags history and find a million of Walton’s “what the fuck did he just say?” moments.

You get the point.

Anyway. Last night was one of those stories you couldn’t get mad at for rambling or nonsense. This one had some substance and immediately grabbed my attention.

Holy shit wait he could have played Chewbacca? How is that even possible?

Walton always has that element where you don’t know if what he saying is true or if he had one of his substances almost convince him it happened and it’s a hell of a tightrope to walk, but every time he tells a story like this you are enthralled.

In fairness to Walton … he did remind people he made an appearance in Ghostbusters.

So maybe he loves the silver screen. Maybe he was so famous with directors or hooked up with the right people that he could call in favors like that … in the end who really knows how it came about that he almost played Chewbacca but this is a story I never expected to hear late at night watching two not that great Pac 12 teams, and that’s what makes college basketball and Bill Walton for that matter the damn best. Just a wild ride of watching a game but being absolutely awestruck with a man telling captivating stories that you have no idea are true or not, but immediately want to know if they are true or not.

As far as Star Wars, I’m not a Star Wars guy but I went to the experts in the office aside from Dave because I sure as shit wasn’t texting him at 12:36 eastern for a response… and asked for their opinions on how they think he would have done/ how it would have affected the movie. Here’s what I got back:

Final word : I will never know if Dave Pasch loves or hates Walton. Maybe that’s my favorite part of this whole thing. Wondering if he pissed off an ESPN exec that he’s forced to listen to rambling or that he’s laughing along with us.
