SpongeBob's "Sweet Victory" Will Kick Off Nickelodeon's Super Bowl Broadcast And It's Guaranteed To Be A Banger

Remember, a few years back when Maroon 5 was performing at the Super Bowl, and Stephen Hillenberg died a few weeks earlier, so they promised that they would play "Sweet Victory" at halftime. They kind of did. They gave a little intro, which I think was a precursor to "Psycho Mode" because nothing says Spongebob like Travis Scott. Then, Adam Levine came out and gave one of the lamest Super Bowl halftime shows that we've seen. For the last several years, Nickelodeon has been cornered the market on alternate broadcasts; it's kind of bizarre. I could be wrong about this, but I thought Nickelodeon maybe like wasn't as popular as it used to be. I thought that that was more of a 90s kid thing, but it seems like they're really rolling with a lot of the same shows that I grew up on. Now it's official, "Sweet Victory" will kick off the Nickelodeon Super Bowl broadcast this year.

Either you get it, or you don't. If you get it and are a diehard SpongeBob fan like myself, this is a big deal. "Band Geeks" is the definitive SpongeBob episode. Somebody asked me the other night on Twitter what my favorite episode of the show is. I responded by saying, "Band Geeks," and the response Was that it's kind of cheating to say that's the best episode. It's kind of like saying that "Nightman Cometh" is the best episode of Always Sunny. Yes, it's probably true, but considering it's essentially everyone's go-to episode, it's very mainstream to say that it's your favorite. With that said, it's a fucking classic. Yes, I have a child's sensibilities, but early episodes of SpongeBob make me laugh harder than almost anything. I question your sense of humor if you don't find "Band Geeks" funny.

What is unique about the "Sweet Victory" song is that it's one of the rare instances on the show where the world doesn't shit on Squidward. He actually wins in the end, but secondly, "Sweet Victory" is legitimately a good song. Like, it's not a cute, funny kids children's show song. It's really good. It's a song you can play after your team wins a championship or something. It's a fitting Super Bowl anthem, and I'll probably be the one guy on the edge of my seat at our Super Bowl party when it plays. Ah, who am I kidding? I'm not attending a Super Bowl party.

I don't know how this whole thing started with Nickelodeon getting these alternate broadcasts. They've become a viral sensation over the last several years. I'm not going to act like I've gone out of my way to watch them, but based on the clips I've seen, it taps into what I liked about Nickelodeon cartoons growing up. It's just so fucking bizarre that it borders on psychedelic. I've never done acid, but if I did, I'd imagine several Nickelodeon characters would show up in my visions. Thankfully, I won't need to do any drugs because I'll have my fix of SpongeBob for this year's Super Bowl.
