We, As Americans, Demand That Formula 1 Explain Lewis Hamilton Going To Ferrari From Mercedes In NFL Terms

I know that over the years, F1 viewership has skyrocketed in America. Obviously the Netflix series has played a huge role in getting people invested in these drivers, and people are hooked.

However, I still haven't caught the F1 bug yet. And that sucks because when the news broke earlier this morning that Lewis Hamilton is making the switch from Mercedes to Ferrari…

People went crazy. It seems like this is some Earth shattering news, to say the least. I love Earth shattering news. It's fun to be swept up in the excitement of shit like that. But since I haven't caught the F1 bug yet, I was out of the loop. There's no doubt in my mind that I'm not alone, though.

Which is why I think it's important for Formula 1, and all primarily European sports for that matter, to start making these announcements in ways that the typical American can understand. What does Lewis Hamilton going to Ferrari look like if this were the NFL? Would it be prime Brady leaving New England for Tampa Bay, or would it be 40-year-old Tom Brady leaving New England for Tampa Bay? Or are Mercedes and Ferrari even bigger rivals than that? Maybe if Patrick Mahomes got traded to the Bills or something along those lines?

We just deserve to know how big these moves actually are. And the onus should be on European sports to make it easier for the American fan to process, because we won the American Revolution and we won both World Wars. Tell Sky Sports that if they're going to announce Lewis Hamilton is going to Ferrari, they need to include the NFL equivalent. Same with any news coming out of the Champions League or anything like that. Doesn't seem like too much to ask.
