All Of Twitter Came Together To Celebrate The Downfall Of Jeff Goodman Following His "How Do You Look In Orange" Attack On An Independent Documentarian

This past weekend, Ed Cooley made his return to Providence......and any person with a connection to Providence College was there waiting for him:

Saturday happened without any real consequences. Providence won, the fans were loud, and Ed Cooley made egotistical comments about himself after the game. What we didn't see coming out of this weekend was all the focus being on an independent documentary called Divine Providence.

Last week, Big East Films released an hour-long documentary on Ed Cooley's exit from Providence. This was the first "film" they ever released and made it clear that films on the remaining Big East schools would be made in the future. I watched the documentary on Saturday night and enjoyed it. Sure, it didn't have the glitz and glam of an HBO/Netflix doc, but that was part of the charm. The documentary went deep into Cooley's departure and accurately showed why Providence fans felt so backstabbed by who they once believed to be their savior. There were features from media members, rational fans, and crazy fans. The storytelling flowed and the cast of characters interviewed were good.

Sunday rolled around and Big East Films account on Twitter was suspended. All of Big East Twitter (which is bigger than you think) was disappointed. Some blamed Georgetown fans, others blamed the Big East (I would assume it's the latter). The good news was the documentary was still up on YouTube.

Throughout this entire time, we didn't know who made Divine Providence. Big East Films was anonymous. With the Big East ending his dreams of future docs, he took off the mask:

The thread is long, but what caught everyone's attention was the 10th tweet in the thread:

Blue Demon Degen is talking to Jeff Goodman in the screenshots above. Goodman is a member of the Field of 68 Podcast, with John Fanta and Rob Dauster. They have historically had a great relationship with Ed Cooley and were not fans of the documentary, in which John Fanta played a huge role. I'd assume the main point of contention was the 10 minutes spent on the rumors that Ed Cooley was having an affair in Providence, which may have led to his decision to leave. On top of that, the documentary dove into the narrative that Ed Cooley "checked out" on the 2023 Providence Friars late in the season. That is not completely outlandish as his house in Rhode Island was put on sale in early March, before the Big East Tournament and March Madness. Providence had a very good team last year but fell apart late, and lost their final 4 games. These are all just theories as to why the Field of 68 guys "really didn't like" this harmless documentary (with only 20,000 views), even though one of them was in it.

I'd assume Blue Demon Degen is alluding to John Fanta here. Obviously, the Field of 68 team did not appreciate how Cooley was portrayed in the documentary. Field of 68 is the biggest podcast in CBB, they have the best guests, get the best access, and are often doing post-game podcasts on the courts of top-tier programs. They are highly connected within the space and you could argue they are trying to "protect" Ed Cooley. When the news first came down last March, Jeff Goodman led a PR campaign defending Ed Cooley's decision. Was that out of friendship or was it a "you scratch my back, I scratch your back" type deal? Plus you add in that John Fanta works for the Big East….there could be a "defend the shield" phenomenon going on here. It's no secret that the Big East would LOVE for Georgetown to bounce back to form.

All that being said, asking a guy who made a documentary in his free time, "how do you look in orange?" is the most Jeff Goodman line ever. This man was ready to open up Riker's Island again and lock all of the DMCA criminals up one by one! IN THE NAME OF JOURNALISM! GOODMAN SHALL REIGN SUPREME! INDIANA HAS MORE TALENT THAN UCONN!

Goodman has long been in the CBB world and has made a lot of enemies throughout the years (including me):

And today, Twitter has decided to throw a parade for his downfall:

Before I go, I do want to point out a theory that Providence fans have floated since Saturday that FOX lowered the sound of the crowd. I don't know if that is common practice for broadcasting purposes, but if it is not, that's kind of a huge story, no? Why would they do that? Who asked them to do that? Was it the Big East?

Is this all connected…..does the Big East not want Providence to win? I was the biggest Providence hater ever last year. I made it my personality. However, I must stand up for the oppressed…because if not me, then who? If not now, then when????
