Dakota Johnson Admits "I Don’t Know If [Madame Web] Is Going to Be Good at All", Says It Was "Psychotic" To Film On Blue Screens

Variety- Dakota Johnson put a lot of trust in director SJ Clarkson while filming “Madame Web.” The actor, who stars as Cassandra Webb in the upcoming superhero thriller set in Sony’s “Spider-Man” universe, reflected on her experience working with a blue screen for CGI effects.

“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion,” Johnson said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!’”

“But I trusted [Clarkson],” Johnson continued, noting that she would often check in with the director to keep track of which scenes were real versus inside Cassandra’s head. “She works so hard, and she has not taken her eyes off this movie since we started.”

It's no secret that 'Madame Web' - the new "kinda related to Spider-Man" movie from Sony - looks like absolute dogshit.

From the studio's recent track record (which includes Venom, Venom 2, and Morbius), to the unbelievably delivered (and now VERY memed) line, "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died" in the first trailer....

....to the suit that leaked on an Ocean Spray bottle (and looks like it's made out of Fruit Roll-Ups)....

….to the studio supposedly not realizing how much they were fucking up Spider-Verse timelines in the movie until it was too late, forcing them to cancel plans to bring Andrew Garfield back….

….to the rumors that Uncle Ben will get "With great power comes great responsibility" from a GOD DAMN FORTUNE COOKIE….

….there is quite literally nothing I've heard that gives me any hope whatsoever in this movie being watchable.

Except Sydney Sweeney, I guess.

At least the movie's star, Dakota Johnson, is being honest about the whole ordeal. She admitted to Variety recently that she had no idea if the final product would be good while filming it, and found the process of working on a blue screen to be "psychotic".

Didn't we learn anything from the making of the Star Wars prequels, people?!

Most actors can't be expected to give believable performances in these circumstances!

It even sounds like Johnson took some convincing before she accepted the role, saying she "didn't know" about being a superhero when she first read the script….

Clarkson reached out to Johnson about the superhero film in 2021, shortly after the actor had finished filming “The Lost Daughter.” Johnson admitted she was hesitant at first about the role: “I got sent this script, and I was like, ‘I don’t know about me being a superhero.’”

But she was intrigued by Cassandra, saying, “I was sort of mystified by her powers. I felt like, ‘Oh, I really would love to see that superhero. I would love to see a young woman whose superpower is her mind.’”

That's always a good sign, huh?!

Again - NOTHING coming out about Madame Web makes me want to see this movie. Every little detail that trickles out just makes me more and more worried about how bad this could be. Like….will this be the biggest flop in comic book movie history? I don't know what the budget was, but I think it could be, because I truly have no idea who the audience for this movie is. None of my nerd friends even plan on seeing it.

I'm also pretty sure Sony has to crank out these Spider-related movies constantly just to retain the rights to Spider-Man, so I guess they're literally just filling a quota now. Even the next one, Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, sounds great on paper - but I have no faith in Sony getting it right….

Please keep Tom Holland FAAAAR away from the Sonyverse, because as much shit as we've been giving the MCU lately, they've nailed Peter Parker/Spider-Man every step of the way. I loved what they did with him in No Way Home, resetting him back to the Friendly Neighborhood Spidey we all know and love, and think if they got their hands on him, they'd undo all of that instantly.
