The Lions Beat The Bucs And We Were In Detroit For It All

My ears are still ringing. For the second weekend in a row, we hit the streets of Detroit and Ford Field to witness what was legitimately Detroit history. Fun is a word that I would rarely use to describe the Detroit Lions, but the one fun thing about seeing this kind of success for the first time is that it feels important. I understand that for a lot of teams, winning games in the playoffs is an expectation. That’s never been the case here. This is new to this city, and they deserve it.

Seeing how enthusiastic Detroit is about this entire thing is genuinely inspiring. Detroit is a football city; the sad truth is that their football team has rarely ever given them anything to cheer for. I was conversing with my buddy during the game, and he said nothing would ever feel like this again, and I originally disagreed. This could be the beginning of a golden age of Lions football. I have total faith and trust in the regime at this point, and that’s coming from somebody who doubted them very often in the early part of the administration, but there is something to be said about that first playoff run. I hope we get to a point in the future where winning in the divisional round is something we expect, but we’re new to all of this.

I’m still determining what the game plan will be for next week. Obviously, the Lions don’t have a home game. The Ford field has already sold out for their watch party. The coolest thing about this last month of football, and I’m obviously including Michigan winning the national championship in this, is that I’ve actually been able to enjoy it. It’s pretty rare as sports fans that we can acknowledge that we’re a part of something unique, and if you’re a Wolverine and Lions fan in the state, this last month has been complete bliss. What’s crazy about it is that it’s far from over. What if the Lions just won the whole damn thing? It’s not out of the realm of possibility.
