The Bears Reportedly Hired Shane Waldron As Their OC, So Give Me Caleb Williams

I'm not going to sit here and act like I know the first thing about Shane Waldron and I'll preface everything by saying I am conditioned to assume this is a whatever hire by a whatever organization. That's what Chicago sports have done to me and many others; they've broken our brains so much that we assume the worst and hope for the best.

Is that unfair to new hires, specifically Shane Waldron here? Sure. But trick me 1000 times... you know the drill.

Here's a random YouTube breakdown of his offense:

Anyways. Regardless of my assumption that the Bears will fuck everything up in the coming months, they still are sitting in a GOLDEN spot, as they have their pick of Fields or Williams (or Maye/Penix/Daniels/whoever else), can trade the pick, whatever. They have options on options on options, and from QBs that all have wildly different skill sets.

Apparently, per this NBCS Sports Chicago article, the Bears hired their new OC based on his ability to mold an offense to the QB's skillset. I love hearing this quote

The Bears said their OC interview process would ask the candidates how they’d plan to design offenses around quarterbacks with different skill sets.

Waldron apparently aced that test and now will play a key role in evaluating helping Poles and Eberflus plot the Bears quarterback course going forward.

But we've heard this before. Gotta put the fuck up or shut the fuck up, especially with this organization.

Anyone with a brain, let alone just an average football acumen like me, knows this is/was the most important part of this OC hire. Are you gonna go the ball control route with Fields and run all over teams while he passes for like 190 yards a game? I mean the dude DOES make plays, just not with consistency:

Or are ya gonna air it out with Williams?

Again, having those two options puts the Bears in an incredible spot. Now we wait and see if they make the correct call. That's where my fear lies and I don't think I'm crazy for saying that.

If my dumbass is making the call? I'm going with Williams. Take a shot at greatness. I don't think Fields ever amounts to anything other than a 2nd division starter, personally. Regardless of the tired argument, hopefully this Waldron cat can make this offense tick.

The next few months are gonna be a lot of fun
