Owen Tippett And The Flyers Are Here To Save The City Of Philadelphia

Eagles blow a 10-1 start to the season by losing 6 out of 7 and getting their dicks kicked in by Baker Mayfield? Phillies blow homefield advantage and a 2-0 series lead in the NLDS by losing 4 out of the next 5 to the Diamondbacks, including back-to-back home losses in games 6 and 7? Joel Embiid's knee ligaments about to pull off the bone like a rack of ribs coming out of the smoker after 7 hours at 250 degrees?

There are plenty of reasons for be the most depressed, despondent sack of shit in America right now if you're a Philly sports fan. Last year was rough because we had 3 teams all lose in the championship. But that was still an incredibly successful year that included multiple conference/league championships. This year has just been catastrophic meltdown and embarrassment. I totally get why you'd feel hopeless in a time like this.

But what if I told you about a special little drug that could make all your troubles go away? What if I told you I have something that'll make you feel that high you've been chasing since mid-October?

It's called Philadelphia Flyers hockey, baby.

Just some hot nasty stuff from OT as the Flyers continue this insane run they've been on for the past 2 months. That's 5 points, including 4 goals, in the past 5 games for Tippett. Menacing behavior out there to say the very least.

A team that was supposed to be rebuilding. A team that was supposed to be basement dwellers and just praying for another top 5 pick in the upcoming NHL draft. This team has now won 4 straight games and is just 2 points out of 1st place in the Metro Division. Granted, they have 2 games on hand over the Rangers so they're technically 3rd in the division as far as points percentage goes. But there's hardly any team in the league right now hotter than the Flyers.

The only team hotter would be the Winnipeg Jets. The same Winnipeg Jets the Flyers just shutout 2-0 the other night on the tail end of a back-to-back.

Now I'll admit--I'm a little fearful about what will happen to this team once the entire city puts their faith and attention onto them. I think what was really working for the Flyers for a while there was how under the radar they were. Nobody gave a shit and they could just play some puck in peace. Now that they're making some noise, there's a chance the Philly sports stink might make their way over to them. But something tells me this team if feeling it too much right now to slow down.

Maybe not a Cup run just yet. But this team is fun as shit, and that's all we can really ask for in this city at the moment.

Sidenote: I don't know much about this Matt Brown character. But he's a Flyers prospect, and I sure as shit wouldn't mind having a guy like this waiting on the bench for a shootout.
