The First Thing Gypsy Rose Blanchard Did When She Got Out Of Prison Was Watch 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'
I'll be honest, I haven't been following the whole Gypsy Rose Blanchard story nearly as closely as most over the last few weeks/months/years (I had no idea who she was until she was recently released from prison) but this clip made me laugh.
Apparently the first thing Gypsy Rose did after serving eight years behind bars for the second-degree murder of her mother was boot up Disney+ (a streaming service that didn't even exist when she first got booked in 2016!) and watch the 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series starring Ewan McGregor, because she's a self-professed "huge Star Wars fan"!
I'd say she probably should've started with something like 'The Mandalorian' or 'Andor' for quality sake, but I understand the nostalgia factor of 'Obi-Wan', and the first new show you watch outta prison probably seems great no matter what.
It's like Tony Stark getting Burger King after spending a few months in a cave....
Then again, I have no idea what kind of facility she was kept in. Prisoners are Tik Toking Fortnite dances from their cells and shit nowadays, and it's completely skewed my old Shawshank-ass view of what jail is like. It doesn't sound like she had access to streaming services, though!
I also wonder if she's seen 'The Last Jedi' yet. That was the first Star Wars movie to release once she was locked up, and as much as I (still) love that movie and think it's the best of the new trilogy, it's obviously the most polarizing blockbuster ever made - and she may hate it. It may be her new favorite, but it also may make her want to go straight back to jail.
Oh, and imagine hearing about Baby Yoda through the grapevine but not being able to watch Mando? You see someone on visitation pull up in a Grogu hoodie and you just have no fucking clue who that is? I just sent chills up my own spine while writing that. Missing out on new Star Wars content is as good a reason as any to stay outta prison in my opinion.
Anyway - enjoy the new library of content from a galaxy far, far away you've got, Gypsy.
Let us know if you ever want to go to Disney.
P.S. Again, I haven't followed much of this story, but my coworkers have been doing a great job of covering it if you're still confused/curious….
