With Today's Loss, No NFL Head Coach Has Lost More Games Than Bill Belichick

Congratulations to Bill Belichick who tied an NFL record today! With the 17-3 loss today to the Jets, Bill Belichick lost the 165th game in his head coaching career. That ties Jeff Fisher and Dan Reeves for the most losses by a head coach in NFL history. I hate Bill Belichick more than anyone in professional sports so this makes me very happy.

I do have to be a fair JOURNALIST here (I'm not a journalist at all) and state that Belichick is also 3rd all-time in wins with 302. He's only behind Don Shula (323) and George Halas (318). Andy Reid is next on the list but it still 55 wins behind Belichick. So, yes even a hater like me has to admit that the only reason he has so many losses is because he's been around forever. They weren't going to let a guy like Rod Marinelli coach 165 games, much less last long enough to lose that many.

I do think it is fair to really look at Belichick's legacy with so many reports saying that there is a very good chance he has coached his last game as a Patriot. Even someone who despises Belichick as much as I do can't take away his six Super Bowl victories. But Brady winning it all with the Bucs did change things. I think it's very fair to question how much of an impact Belichick truly had. For so long, the narrative was the Pats dynasty could be given equal credit to Belichick and Brady. I just don't think that's the case.

That stat really angers Pats fans which I don't really understand. I'm a Jets fan admitting that the Pats had the greatest player in NFL history. Why does it matter so much that anyone thinks Belichick is overrated? I'm not saying Deflategate is a thing. The Pats absolutely earned the six rings. I just think Brady should get the great majority of the credit.

I do question which team will grab Belichick should he leave the Pats. It sounds like he wants to still coach. The scary thing for the Chargers or Commanders or whoever gets Belichick to coach means you also get Bill Belichick the GM. No team should want this. He's become a terrible GM as both drafting (and especially) free agency. Would you trust Belichick to rebuild your team? The guy that believed in Mac Jones, Cam Newton, Juju Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton and Chad Ryland? Those are just moves made in the 2020's.

As a Jets fan, I really hope he stays in New England. He seems especially lost on the offensive side and regarding player personnel moves. The Pats are going to have a great draft pick to make the quarterback selection of the future. Do you really want 72 year old Bill Belichick making that call?
