Dumbest Guy Ever Steals A Plane And Gets Caught Because He Decided To Land It In An Airport
AP News — An Idaho man was arrested after stealing a plane from a North Las Vegas hangar, flying it over 100 miles into a southern California airport and eventually running into a desert area after officers inquired about the aircraft.
The man, who is currently in custody in San Bernardino County, faces charges of possession of a stolen airplane and taking stolen property across state lines from the incident, which occurred on Saturday, according to the county sheriff’s department. There could be additional charges in Nevada, according to KSNV-TV.
North Las Vegas officials said the man could also be behind attempted airplane burglaries in the three previous days before his arrest, according to the station.
The aircraft was valued at about $80,000, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Absolutely insane story. First off, the fact that anyone steals a plane should be worrisome to say the least. So let's all make sure the security in this North Las Vegas hangar gets straightened out and we start holding people more accountable there. So many questions about how he actually did this. Were the keys in it? Do planes even have keys? Aren't they running on computers? Who was there watching the plane? He just got out of there no questions asked? No one chased him? Literally so many questions.
Once you get past those, and the security negligence, there is an element of this that's a bigger issue and that this guy is the dumbest criminal on the planet. Of all the places to land this thing, yes an airport obviously makes sense because of the space, the accessibility, etc etc. But that's if you HAD PERMISSION TO LAND THE FREAKING THING THERE !!!!! You don't land a plane there that the airport didn't know about! What did this dope expect to happen? The staff to just say oh no problem we'll let this random man just park a plane we didn't expect to land here just park it here no questions asked? Absolute moron. I know it might not be feasible to land it in a field, or a park or a desert etc. I'm not a scientist, in fact I failed the Chemistry and Physics Regents. But I do know this, landing it at an airport is the dumbest thing he could have done. Absolutely no chance of winning with that.
And the craziest thing of all this, his grand plan of getaway was to run in a desert. What kind of guy has a massive controversy and their plan is to pack up and run for the hills on the next train possible ? (Here's an unrelated video of Mintz heading for the hills after a controversy)
Did he think he was going to outrun everyone? Just a lunacy plan of action on all accounts. Stealing the plane was bad enough, trying to land it in an airport was the dumbest thing possible, and then running was the icing on the cake. Just a total moron.
Final note … if you have never seen Midnight Run. A very very entertaining movie, and this clip always makes me laugh. Deniro has to bring Charles Grodin a convict back to Las Vegas and a million things go wrong along the way including Grodin saying he can't fly only to steal a plane to try and get away.
