Florida State Has Added Texas A&M To Their Football Schedule!! Wait, That's Texas A&M-Commerce
I get it, it's funny. On first glance, it looks like Florida State could finally get their revenge for stealing Jimbo.....and then you realize it's essentially a satellite campus cupcake (although Jimbo might just be coaching there by 2025). And I know the running joke around the internet over this is that whoever in the Florida State Athletic Department decided they needed to beef up their schedule after getting snubbed by the committee needs to learn the difference between Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Commerce University, but let me say this loud and clear, fuck you all. I don't blame Florida State in the slightest for scheduling games like this.
As someone who has been in the playoff five times, including having won the very first one, here's a couple FACTS from an expert:
1. Florida State played LSU and Florida in the non-conference, went undefeated, won their Power 5 conference championship, and still got left out of the playoff. It does not matter AT ALL who you schedule in the non-conference. Take Michigan for example. They were ranked high all year after setting the world on fire against a non-conference schedule of East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green.
2. Now that the playoff is expanding to 12 teams, all you have to do is be a recognizable brand and win 10 football games. It doesn't matter who you play. If you thought big non-conference games were dumb with four teams, wait until how the mindset shifts moving forward. I get that it's for the fans and the ratings and blah blah blah, but if you simply want to focus on making the playoffs, schedule teams you can beat.
3. If I'm Florida State I'm scheduling Texas A&M-Commerce, Alabama-Huntsville, and Ohio State-Newark until I get a handwritten apology from the committee and a billion dollars of retributions. The fact that they're not in the playoff this year is such a fucking farce that I don't know how Mike Norvell wakes up this morning and looks his recruits in the eye on National Signing Day. Because at this time last year, he could say to them that if you come here, and you beat LSU, and you beat Florida, and you run the table in the ACC, and you win your conference, then YOU will be playing on the sports biggest stage in the playoff. But they did and they aren't. Mike Norvell, I'm sorry. You got fucked.
Florida St -65 vs. Texas A&M (Commerce Campus). And the committee is going to love it.
