Patrick Mahomes Was Mad Travis Kelce's Lateral Play Was Called Back Because He Believes It Will Impact His Hall Of Fame Career

Man, when did the Kansas City Chiefs become kind of unlikable? Yesterday’s Bills/Chiefs game was a matchup between two teams that desperately needed to win. Trailing late in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes tried to pull off another one of his magic moments. It seemed like things had worked. Travis Kelce made an unbelievable lateral that led to a touchdown, but the play was called back because Kadarius Tony lined up offsides. It’s a rare call, but it was the correct one. Both Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes expressed their displeasure.

I understand being frustrated in the moment. It's very difficult loss. From Patrick Mahomes' standpoint, I think he probably feels a little bit helpless right now. He has encyclopedia salesman playing wide receiver for him this year. With that said, Toney lined up offside. Yeah, it's a call that you rarely see made, but it's the right call. I just love how he paints TRAVIS KELCE as a victim. If there's one guy who's not slumming it right now, it's definitely him. The guy is arguably the greatest tight end of all time. I still think Gronk is ahead of them, but he will probably end up breaking a lot of Gronk's records. He's hosted Saturday Night Live, and he's dating the most famous person in the world. I don't think this guy will wake up at night a decade from now because he had a lateral play that got called back if it was a playoff game, perhaps. But Kelce has two Super Bowls in his back pocket. He'll be fine.

I usually don't like to be that guy, but if there's one team that probably hasn't earned the right to complain about officials being unfair, it's definitely the Kansas City Chiefs. I'm not going to claim conspiracy, but it does seem like they're often the beneficiary of some pretty questionable calls. It doesn't take away from their success, but I still think that holding the end of the Super Bowl last year was kind of a gift. In the long run, this will be a blip on the radar for Mahomes and Kelce's legacies, though it was unique seeing him blow up like that.
